Benchmarks

The other day Sarah asked how long I could hold a plank for.  I had no idea.  I have never tried to hold a plank for more than a minute.  That used to be on one of my workout in the midst of ab work, hold a plank for a minute, then move on.  Last night at the gym I decided the first thing I would do is a plank just to see how long I could hold one.  3:27.94  Not bad I guess.  I have nothing to compare to however, so I just have to assume it’s not bad.

The other thing I decided to do was the bike and run portion of the try–a-tri that Amber and I will enter this summer.  So I had done a bit of a workout already and then biked 10k and ran 3k.  The biking part took me 21:30 and the running 13:23, respectable numbers I think, and a good starting point.  I know it is possible for me to run faster than that, I’m not sure I can bike faster than that on my mountain bike though.  My dad did say he would lend me one of his older road bikes for the race though, so that could help.

I have learned something else my last two days at the gym.  It’s time for a new routine!  I have purposely drifted from doing the leg program Jodi had me on.  I think trying to leg press ever increasing amounts of weight (my current high is 430lbs plus whatever that leg press thingy weighs with the plate for your feet and the bars for the weights) is making my back go a bit wonky.  Plus meeting up with Jodi would mean measurements and there should be some gains in muscle there I would think after 3 months of new maximum weights lifted!

Oh, Amber spotted a really nifty ab infographic on imgur last night.  I’ll share that very soon! Stay tuned!

  1. Wow, you are a machine! I do believe nearly three and a half minutes in a plank is something to be very happy about.
