Friend Making Monday – Tech Questions

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section here  and over at: www.alltheweigh.com so we can all see your FMM questions and answers. Please invite your blog readers to add their links here too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

Tech Questions

1.  PC or Mac?

PC, I like to be able to do the things I want to do with my computer, have it communicate with my other devices and buy software for it easily.  And y’know, not buy software as the case may be.

2. When did you get your first computer?

I got my own first computer back at the start of my last year in highschool 1997.  I bought it with my own cash I had worked all summer helping to build the house of a neighbour.  I actually bought it from my friend’s dad.  When I handed over $1700 in cash he says “What is this? Drug money?”

3. Do you use cable, DSL or something else?

I have cable now, I had DSL a few weeks ago before I moved, they seem to be pretty equivalent in most cases anyways – especially with a laptop since the wireless can only go so fast anyways.

4. When choosing a laptop, do you think it’s more important to choose the fastest one, or the lightest one?

Fastest.  Lightest usually means stripped down anyways.  Always go for the faster processor too over RAM, you can add RAM later.

5. What kind of cell phone do you own?  Do you like it?

I have the Samsung Galaxy S, it’s and Android phone.  I love it.  Soon I can get the S3 and I am dyeing for it!  I REALLY loved it when I got it because I could even do my college homework on it while I was at work at the gas station.  Yes it took a little longer to type things, but it’s amazing.  Fair battery life, fantastic camera, great functionality.

6. How do you carry your laptop when you travel?

I’ve only flown to go on cruises, and I have not taken my laptop with me on those.  So I’m not sure.  Generally I take my laptop in it’s bag when I go to work and stuff.

7. How many e-mails do you send on an average day?

When I was working as a tech guy I would say maybe four or five.  Now like one real email a week.  A lot of times I email pictures from my phone to myself (to pick up on the computer) because it’s easier than getting the cord to plug it in.

8. Do you ever blog using your iPad or similar tablet?

I have blogged from my phone plenty of times.  Both with the blogger app and just by emailing it.  The only thing I tend not to like about it is editing (blogger really did not like to let me go back and move the cursor and change things) and I never remember to add the blank line between paragraphs that usually happen automatically.

9. What do you use more often – a desktop or a laptop?

Laptop.  Once I got a laptop that actually worked I hardly ever touched the desktop I had.  There has not been a desktop computer in our house for over two years now I think – I sold it to a friend, and it seems like she has learned to stop getting viruses now too!

10.  As a blogger, are there other gadgets that you need to get the job done?  If so, what are they?

My phone for pictures, Photoshop to edit them.  I find that it is just handy to have something on you to capture things.  I have used my drawing book to take down ideas for blogging and my 3DS to blog with too.

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions on your blog!  Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments! Happy Monday, friends!

  1. Here from FMM on All the Weigh.

I don't think I could manage without my desktop, I'm a gamer so it's just one of those things. If you end up with a gaming laptop it's going to be heavy (ours was 25lbs!), and unlike a desktop PC we couldn't just replace whatever stopped working (e.g. the video card). With a laptop when it's done, it's done.

    1. Yeah I agree, I only play two or three games on my laptop. Left for Dead II and UFO defence. Since I got a Gamecube (and now a Wii and Xbox) I pretty much stopped gaming on my computer.

  2. Did not have expected "tech" questions for FMM, but OK... I used to think that PCs were awesome. Why pay extra for something with less capabilities? Then, I started suffering from "two year PCs" where every two years or so they'd stop turning on, slow down, show me the blue screen of death every other week or lose my work mid-process just because it could. I finally bought a mac and it changed everything. I've had mine for almost five years and it still runs like it did five years ago. Once, my right click on the track pad stopped working so I brought it to the mac store and they noticed that my case was a little dinged up, so they gave me a new one... for free. So now my computer LOOKS like it did 5 years ago. And, aside from the glitch free functionality, it is sooooo pretty! What's not to love?

At my office, they sat us down and said "You can have any smart phone you want - including the iphone 4S - right now, or, you can wait for the iphone 5 to come out next month and we'll get you that." I am THE most impatient woman in the world but I'm still waiting for the iphone 5.

I still have a PC laptop from my employer and I use it every day for work, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about it...

OK, sorry for the long comment - ha! Maybe I should have just blogged about technology... I guess I'm secretly a nerd...

  3. I agree with the former coment. Once I got mac everything changed for the better (they replace our wireless keyboard for free even though it was the hubs that spilled something on it).

    Stopping by from FMM
